Legends Day looms on Rebel Creek’s horizon

Graham Richardson and Rogan Norvall have a lucrative target in mind for their highly regarded three-year-old filly Rebel Creek, who will attempt to take a big step in that direction when she lines up in a 1400m Rating 65 at Pukekohe on Sunday.
Richardson Racing bought the daughter of Pariah for $180,000 from BMD Bloodstock’s draft at the 2024 Ready to Run Sale at Karaka. Rebel Creek was runner-up on debut at Te Aroha on December 7 behind Drops Of God, who went on to win again at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.
In her only other start, Rebel Creek jumped awkwardly before finishing strongly for a smart maiden win over 1200m at Taupō on December 28.
“She’s a lovely filly,” Richardson told RaceForm this week. “She’s just a real athlete and I’ve got a lot of time for her, although she still has quite a lot to learn.
“She’ll go around at Pukekohe on Sunday, hopefully go well again there, and then we’ll head towards the Sir Patrick Hogan Karapiro Classic at Te Rapa on February 7. It’s a $350,000 race and well worth having a crack at with a promising filly like her. Hopefully she can make the field.
“She’s worked up super leading into this weekend and I can’t see any reason why she wouldn’t run well again.”
Rebel Creek will be joined at Pukekohe on Sunday by her stablemates Britannia Gold and Lotus, who will both line up in a 1300m Rating 75.
“Britannia Gold had no luck at all last time at Ellerslie on Boxing Day,” Richardson said. “Her win at Te Rapa before that is a better guide.
“Lotus is resuming but has been working well leading into it.”
