Leap To Fame likely to back up in Free-For-All

New Zealand is going to get a little more Larry.
Backing up on a short turnaround isn’t a foreign concept to the horse, but doing so after a taxing two-mile run is.
“He’s raced Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday in the Inter Dominions before and coped fine with it, but this is a slightly harder ask, I guess.”
Whilst proud of the determination Leap To Fame showed to fight on for second behind fellow Australian Kingman on Tuesday, Dixon admits he was a touch disappointed.
“I’m probably a little disappointed with the end result given I know what he’s capable of. Credit to the winner, he was probably just too good on the day.”
Leap To Fame began well from the standing start and surged forward three-wide around the first bend.
Dixon said he harboured a desire to force the issue and try and take the lead off Republican Party, but it was just not viable.
“I didn’t try, but I did want to. They (Republican Party and driver Carter Dalgety) were just going too quick for us, and we couldn’t get near them. It ended being their undoing as they got tired down the straight.”
Leap To Fame fought doggedly down the stretch but Kingman, who had sat three-wide outside him from the 1000-metre mark, packed too many punches and pulled clear to win by a length.
