Katie Wyllie & Boom Dynamite big Greyhound weekend winners

Katie Wyllie, along with the classy greyhound Boom Dynamite, both enjoyed thoroughly deserved success over the weekend.
Friday evening at the Hatrick Raceway saw Boom Dynamite blast his rivals away when delivering his emphatic 2.25 length victory in the $30,000 New Zealand Futurity.
The Group 1 event was all over as a contest when Boom Dynamite exploded away from the 520m eight-trap.
The Lisa Cole trained consistent son of Aston Kimetto and Big Time Vegas freewheeled his way to his swift 29.97 win for his co-owners Lisa Cole and Craig Rendle.
“Boom Dynamite has been knocking on the door for Group race success for a long time. He really deserved his win,” commented Cole’s husband Brendon.
“Obviously his start was the winning of the race. Boom Dynamite did everything right and he was justifiably rewarded. He smashed them,” an elated Rendle said, adding, “Huge thanks to the entire Cole team – they put in the hard yards, and they deserve their successes.”
Boom Dynamite has matched his paws against the nation’s best greyhounds throughout the country all season. His Friday win took his career record to 15 wins, 18 minor placings and $96,115 in stake earnings from his 44 race day appearances.
The Garry Cleeve prepared Stuck Throttle was gallant when finishing second with it being the third occasion, he has occupied that placing in a Group 1 race this season.
Perfect Harry received an economical rails passage to secure the third placing for his trainer Dylan Voyce.
Katie Wyllie wins Entain Greyhound Excellence Award
Canterbury trainer Katie Wyllie was deservedly announced as the winner of the Greyhound Excellence award category during the Entain Industry Excellence awards function at the Ellerslie Racecourse on Sunday evening.
The 29-year-old Wyllie was offered a training partnership with the leading canine conditioner Dave Fahey when his wife Jean decided to step aside from training, with the new partnership kicking numerous goals since commencing training together on 1 January.
Since then, they have mentored 156 winners including five-Group race winners, three of those at the elite Group 1 level, while maintaining a phenomenal training strike rate as seen by their impressive current UDR 0.4860 figure.
The foundation for Wyllie’s Entain award success was laid many years ago, with Wyllie aside from handling greyhounds and working in various kennels for a number of trainers over numerous years, also being a valued Board member with the Christchurch GRC and more recently also on the Greyhound Racing New Zealand’s Board as a youth representative.
“It feels amazing being recognized winning this award for doing my passion, working with greyhounds.
“Massive thanks to not only Dave and Jean (Fahey), but also to all the people, plus my family, who have helped and supported me along the path to where I am today,” enthused Wyllie.
Wyllie is very passionate about greyhound racing and her attention to detail is meticulous. She is actively involved with rehoming agencies, while her care for greyhounds is illustrated by her personally buying cheeseburgers for all dogs in her care when returning home from racing.
Wyllie receives $10,000 for her win, while the other Greyhound Excellence finalists, trainers Matt Roberts and Jamie Pruden receive $2,000 each.
And Hannah Hegarty was a greyhound code finalist, also receiving $2,000 for the Care & Welfare Excellence award, won by thoroughbred racing’s Lisa Kennedy.
