Competitive Addington feature fields tonight

High class chasing action is guaranteed during this evening’s huge Addington meeting.
Three feature events will be decided following last Thursday’s series of heats.
Local conditioner Craig Roberts holds a strong hand in the $20,000 Selwyn Rakaia Vets Ltd (M10 Race 1) final, having qualified four classy greyhounds.
Paw Kilter ($3.70 & $1.40 – TAB Fixed) returned the quickest 525m heat time via his 30.22 chase. The 29.50 current Addington 525m track record holder Paw Bradley ($3.20 & $1.35) requires no introduction, while Paw Earnest ($5 & $1.65) is likely to be sighted contesting the early pace. Xisco Bale has been a late scratching.
Roberts updates us about their prospects. “Paw Kilter will drop back and then look to finish over the top of them, like he did in his heat. He’s a strong winning chance, although he will be relying on some luck during the run home.
“I guess it might be best if Paw Bradley slightly misses the start from the one-trap as he’s likely to push out if he gets crowded. We know how strong he is during the run home.
“Paw Earnest has plenty of early pace which he must use as I’m worried about Taieri Gout coming down on him.
“So, it comes down to which one of mine can get a clear racing passage. All of them pulled up in good nick following their heats.”
Let Him Cook ($8.50 & $2.20) was the other heat winner, recording 30.34 for last week’s Hatrick Group 1 winning trainers Matt Roberts and Jack Johnson.
“That was a really good heat race by him when he dropped onto the rail and came home good. I am concerned about his draw (seven), however he’s definitely capable of featuring in the event,” advised Roberts.
Dave Fahey and Katie Wyllie provide two finalists with Taieri Gout ($5.50 & $1.70) and Therapy Tex ($19 & $3.50) lining up following their respective heat second placings.
“Hopefully Taieri Gout can lead them out again. If he does so he will probably need some of the others behind him to get into trouble.
“Therapy Tex will need a bit of luck from his draw (five). He’s capable although he must jump quickly. Both of them are ready to go on Thursday,” confirmed Fahey.
Stuck Throttle ($7 & $1.95) is a proven greyhound at the elite level. Trainer Garry Cleeve prepared him to finish second in three Group 1 finals last season.
Fahey/Wyllie sprinters set to explode
All three of the 295m heats for the male greyhounds in the $10,000 Steve Anngow Drapes & Blinds Ph 0272719588 Feature were stylishly won by Dave Fahey and Katie Wyllie mentored sprinters.
The Addington 16.42 295m track record holder Jerry Cola ($1.50 & $1.05) led the way with his sharp 16.53 dash, while Everest Sky ($5.50 & $1.50) clocked 16.71 and Opawa Evans ($9 & $195) returned 16.84.
Dave Fahey sums up their prospects. “Jerry Cola just keeps on delivering for us. Yes, he’s a fast dog alright.
“Everest Sky has been sprinting super since he came back from a spell. He is racing really solid now.
“Opawa Evans is going good sprints. He’s not reliable at the start, although if he comes out good he’ll be hard to beat.”
Craig Roberts conditioned all three heat second placegetters
“Hadwin Bale ($13 & $2.45) jumped real good in his heat. He can make his presence felt from box-eight if he does the same again and he’ll be right up there in the hunt.
“Dewy News ($13 & $2.45) has to begin smartly from the three-trap as there’s a fair bit of pace drawn inside him.
“It took a strong sprinter to run down Paw Maven ($9.50 & $2.05) in his heat. He continues to deliver good, competitive sprints and it wouldn’t surprise to see him getting some of it.
“All of my sprinters have come through their heats as good as gold. I guess I give Hadwin Bale the slight edge purely because of his draw,” advised Roberts.
And it’s shaping up as another Fahey/Wyllie verses Roberts clash in the female feature sprint, the $10,000 Rose & Thistle Feature Sprint final (M9 Race 9).
Cool Friends ($2.50 & $1.18) and Opawa April ($2.50 & $1.18) bookend the field for the Fahey/Wyllie combination.
The trap-one drawn Cool Friends won her heat in 16.92, while Opawa April, who will jump from trap-eight, posted 16.86 for her heat win.
“Cool Friends draw suits her and I expect her to go alright from there. The eight suits Opawa April as she is strong and can sprint around them,” said Fahey.
Roberts produced Trixie Jewel ($23 & $3.70) to claim her heat win in 17.04, while her sister Karen Jewel ($27 & $4) boldly kicked on for her 2.70 length third to Opawa April.
“The draw has worked out real and truly against them (Trixie 5 & Karen 6). Both of them are good quality bitches who have good speed. It will come down to which one of them jumps the best.
“I can’t really split them, but I’ll give Karen a slight edge over Trixie,” suggested Roberts.
Gotcha Pennies ($5 & $1.50) is capable of featuring in this dash for Calum Weir, as is the proven Ashley Bradshaw prepared Ripslinger Roxy ($7.50 & $1.90).
